Learn Digital Photography - Review For Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D Digital SLR Camera

!: Learn Digital Photography - Review For Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D Digital SLR Camera

If you're burnt out on cameras from Canon and Nikon, take into consideration the Konica Minolta Maxxum series of cameras. The Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D features are under review in this article.

The Maxxum 7D is a midrange digital SLR. It offers optical image stabilization with any lens. It has a unique Anti-Shake system that works with all lenses and also has an proficient control layout.

The Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D comes in a practical matte black, much like most typical DSLRs. While conventional, it still looks good with its angular design. The body is solid and well-crafted, made of a hybrid of magnesium-alloy and plastic. The grip is comfortably contoured and feels secure, and without a lens, the camera weighs about 30 ounces, only an ounce or two heavier than average for this class.

Similar to the Olympus Evolt E300, the Maxxum 7D forgoes a separate status LCD and instead relies on the camera's main LCD to exhibit shooting settings. On this Maxxum, the large 2.5-inch LCD has room to display more settings than the usual status LCD, such as ISO, color mode, and image parameters, along with others.

The optical system of the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D has noticeably been carefully designed to allow one to take great photos. The digital camera comes with a 6.1 megapixel resolution and an Anti-Shake mechanism.

The Anti-Shake mechanism prevents image blur created by camera motion. This mechanism is built in the Maxxum 7D's body and works by shifting the CCD. This enables it to function with all Konica Minolta autofocus (AF) lenses.

Plus, nine focus points are incorporated into the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D's advanced AF system. You can allocate the active point yourself or leave all of them active and let the camera settle on which to use from shot to shot. You can also set the camera to switch to continuous or tracking AF operation automatically if it detects subject movement.

The Maxxum 7D offers a broad range of exposure selections. These consist of all four standard exposure modes; three light-metering modes (14-segment honeycomb, center-weighted, and spot); ambient exposure compensation either in half-EV increments to plus or minus 3EV or in one-third-EV increments to plus or minus 2EV. The sensor's sensitivity can be set to auto or from ISO 100 to ISO 3,200 in 1EV increments.

The user controls of the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D are where they should be for the advanced photographer's camera. The most significant features are controlled by means of dedicated external buttons, rather than being in the menu system itself.

Other shooting settings, including exposure adjustments are controlled with thumb and forefinger command wheels. The white-balance control is one of the quickest and most flexible available, consisting of a rotating switch surrounding a button that ingeniously accesses several menu choices.

Flash setting or ambient exposure compensation can be controlled with a dial on the camera's top left side, but can also be made using the forefinger wheel, which I found to be more proficient. Overall, control placement and operating efficiency on this camera are among the best I've seen on any DSLR.

The Konica Minolta 7D's noted battery life is more or less adequate for a full day's shooting. If you are reliant on a long battery life, you can always take along some extras that can be purchased at your neighborhood camera store.

The Minolta 7D stores your photos in CompactFlash Type I/II memory cards. You can also use a MicroDrive should you choose. Pictures are transferred easily from the camera to the PC with the USB 2.0 interface.

Of course there are some quirks I noticed in the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D, and of course you want to know what they are. One such peeve is that the camera is slow to start-up. You are also restricted to one JPEG compression ratio in raw-plus-JPEG, and there is no way to avoid noise reduction processing in high ISO images.

I hope this Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D review has been helpful to you. If it is you are seeking a decent professional SLR camera, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D might be hard to pass up. Still make sure to do your own research when making a buying decision and after that happy shopping!

Camera Reviews - Canon Rebel XS 10-1 MP Digital SLR Camera

!: Camera Reviews - Canon Rebel XS 10-1 MP Digital SLR Camera

Design: Offering two body designs the Canon Rebel XS comes in black and black with silver. Each comes with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and weighs in around 1 pound and a bit more. While this makes it quite lightweight it also makes it feel a little less substantial. The 2.5 inch LCD is good enough for the job while the body has a nice rubbery cover for a better grip with almost all the buttons in reach of your right hand. This allows you to use the camera one-handed with ease.

Specifications: At 10.1 MP the Canon Rebel XS is quite solid for its class. Its feature-set includes APS-C-size, a CMOS sensor with a 1.6x focal-length multiplier and a 7-point autofocus. The DSLR also switches from SDHC to CompactFlash for faster more reliable operation and features an Auto Lighting Optimizer for post capture contrast and brightness adjustment. The DSLR also offers a flash sync speed of 1/200th of a second with shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4000th of a second. Other features include a TTL-metering system (35-zone) and a BG-E5 battery grip.

Features & Performance: While the My Menu allows some menu customization, the overall interface is quite basic. With ISO sensitivity up to 1600 the camera is very entry-level. However, in shooting speed the DSLR is very fast with a startup-to-shot time of less than 0.2 second and a shooting lag of 0.4 second in good conditions. In dim conditions this extends a bit to 0.8 second but shot-to-shot time redeems it at 0.7 second for raw shots and 0.4 second for JPEG shots. With flash-recycling the speed goes to 0.8 second while burst mode goes at 85, outpacing nearly every other DSLR in its class.

Image quality is top-notch, typical of Canon digital cameras with the Canon Rebel XS delivering great color and accurate exposures even on high ISO. Overall the Canon Rebel XS delivers awesome photo quality with faster performance in low-light focus conditions than any of its other competitors in the same class, making it ideal for most DSLR beginners.

5 Essential Accessories For Your Nikon Cameras Or Canon SLR Cameras

!: 5 Essential Accessories For Your Nikon Cameras Or Canon SLR Cameras

If you're looking into buying Nikon cameras or Canon SLR Cameras, you probably have a lot of questions. Like most things you buy, there are a ton of accessories you can add to Canon SLR cameras, to really enhance the photo quality and give you even better results than you even imagined. There are literally thousands of things you can buy for your new camera, but here is a list to weed out the essentials from the extras and help you decide on what the most important add-ons are.

- A Tripod.

Tripods are vital for Canon SLR cameras and Nikon cameras if you're looking to capture clear photos at night, long range photography, self-portraits, or group shots that you want to be included in. Basically, they're essential for anything that requires you to hold the camera steady for long periods of time. A lot of people tend to shy away from tripods, because they can be kind of a pain to carry, but if you're looking to do more dynamic photography, they are pretty handy.

- Remote Shutter Release.

If you've ever used Nikon Cameras or Canon SLR cameras, you may have noticed that when you take macro or landscape shots, they come out a little blurry sometimes. Having a remote shutter release alleviates any shake and vibrations from the camera by eliminating the need to press the shutter button manually, giving you perfectly crisp photos.

- Camera Bag.

If you've been shopping around for Nikon Cameras or Canon SLR cameras, you're already aware of the pretty large price tag on these fine pieces of equipment. So if you end up buying one, you should really invest in a good camera bag to protect it. Camera bags come in all different styles, sizes, and colors, so definitely do some research and find which one suits your needs the best.

- Memory Card Case.

You're probably planning on getting more than one memory card for your DSLR, if you're a serious photographer or enjoy having ample storage space for your photos. If so, you should plan on getting a memory card case to keep your precious files organized and in one place.

- Filters.

Filters are essential for getting truly crisp, saturated, professional photos with Nikon cameras or Canon SLR cameras. There are a lot of filters to choose from, so when picking some for the first time, you should probably stick with a UV filter, a circular polarized filter, and/or a graduated neutral density filter. UV filters go on the lens for protection against scratches and other damages. A circular polarized filter can reduce undesired reflections and make colors more saturated. A graduated neutral density filter can alleviate over-exposure problems in high-contrast shooting situations. These are the real essential filters that can improve any type of shooting, the rest are more for creative and artsy purposes.

- External Flash.

Most Canon SLR cameras and Nikon cameras come with a built-in flash. If you want more a more powerful flash that has a further reach, you should look into an external flash. Also, external flashes reduce red-eye.
